CFD OPERATIONS’ DATUM POINTS
The Centre for Development (CfD) operates on ‘The CfD Community’s contributions and small grants against small research projects on diverse socio-economic development issues, and organizes workshops, seminars and conferences of special importance (few noted hereafter).
19 July 2001: The Economic Development Forum (EDF), Now CfD, organized a talk by an eminent economist and finance expert, Professor Mansur Masih of Edith Cowan University in Australia on ‘Asian Crisis: Perspectives and Challenges’ held at the Fraser of Allander Institute, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.
21 June 2007: The CfD organized an International Conference on ‘The East-West Relations: Economic and Cultural Context’ at the University of Glasgow. The international relations expert and political scientist, Professor Winston E Langley, Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts, Boston, USA gave a Talk on ‘Meeting of The East and West’
01 December 2008: The CfD organized a Joyful Economics Party at the University of Glasgow to celebrate Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus’s first visit to Glasgow in December when he delivered prestigious Adam Smith Lecture (marking the 250th Anniversary of Adam Smith’s Theory of Moral Sentiments at the University of Glasgow, and a Public Lecture on “Alleviating Poverty: Microcredit and Social Business” at Glasgow Caledonian University.
04 July 2010: Under invitation of The Centre for Development (CfD), with Glasgow University Principal’s hosting, Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus made his second visit to Glasgow and spoke at the Global Assembly (GA) at the University of Glasgow on ‘Tackling Poverty and Inequality Toward A Fairer and Safer World - Along the Grameen Path’. The day-long GA Conference attracted over 500 participants, including delegates from 36 countries.
Professor Yunus in his interactive Keynote Speech mentioned that in creating a foothold for people at the bottom, undertaking social cause-driven entrepreneurial ventures are better approaches than welfare dependence and/or charity. He emphasized that the ‘Grameen Way’ – ‘microcredit’ and ‘social business’ – has proven a viable solution to lift millions out of poverty. As such, the ‘ground-up development’ is an effective approach to meaningfully promote and assist the most disadvantaged live with dignity.
The Global Assembly 2010 Convener Real-World Economist Zasheem Ahmed summed up the Conference as producing a remarkable premise for emerging ‘Social Business’ idea as a paradigm switch while dealing with such diverse issues as the reduction of relative disadvantages, inequality, poverty and environmental degradation, and the provisions of education for a living, affordable housing and healthcare, clean energy solutions, fairer banking and credit, community empowerment, youth entrepreneurial opportunities, access to technology, etc.
06 December 2013: Real-World Economists Assembly (RWEA)
The Centre for Development (CfD) and it’s off-shoot Global Institute for New Economics (GIfNE) organized the “Real-World Economists Assembly (RWEA)” on 6th December 2013 at the University of Glasgow, to mark Remembrance in Honour of Trio Towering Figures - Andrew Skinner (1935-2011) - widely revered as the Doyen of Adam Smith Scholars and authority on Adam Smith; Norman Macrae (1923-2010), world’s most prudent economics futurist - the Economist magazine which he served for 41 years valued him in obituary as Unacknowledged Giant and the 20th Century’s Visionary Decent Human Nelson Mandela (1919-2013). The RWEA attracted over 100 germane Academic Scholars and Researchers, and Young Social Scientists from across Scotland.
06 November 2021: Global Assembly 2021 on Tackling Climate Crisis and Global Inequality
On a Superb Match with the Core Focus of COP26 held in Glasgow (01 - 12 November 2021), The Centre for Development (CfD) organized a day-long "Global Assembly on Climate Crisis and Global Poverty & Inequality" at the University of Glasgow on Saturday 06 November.
Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus delivered Keynote Sperch, plus a dozen prominent climate experts, to name - Peter Piekowsky (Founder and Chairman Emeritus Foundation for Climate Restoration, USA), Dr David Jordan (President & CEO of Seven Hills Foundation, Worcester, Massachusetts, USA) & Heribert Genreith (German GeoPhysist & Economist) spoke. It was indeed a successful Special Event, attended by over 1000 (both in-person and Live Stream) from across the globe. Practically, it turned out to be a Grand Assembly of real-world Naturalists, Environment Community Action Entrepreneurs, Youth Environment-Activists, Climate Lobbyists, Specialists, Academics and Researchers - remarkably Resource Individuals and Organizations representing initiatives adapted to mitigating environmental degradation and climate change.

The Centre for Development (CfD) organized a Seminar at Glasgow University Union Bridie Library with over 100 individuals having credentials on Economics and Business crisis issues.
04 June 2022: Fifty Years of UNEP on Tackling Climate Crisis and Global Inequality
The Centre for Development (CfD) organized a Seminar Marking The Fifty Years of United Nations’ Environment Program (UNEP) at Glasgow University Union Bridie Library with over 80 individuals having credentials on Climate Change issues.
The above-focused events provided CfD wonderful opportunities for wider networking and connections with all resource individuals and organizations attended from home and abroad.
